Grow Song of the Evertree:Wiki rules

Below is a suggested set of rules to follow when editing this wiki. Administrators of this wiki should read these rules and adapt them as necessary.

    1. Keep it civil: Do not make personal attacks on other people. If you need to criticize another user’s argument, do so without attacking them as a person. Do not use bigoted language, including slurs which degrade another person or group of people based on gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, etc.
    2. Be a productive member of the wiki: Contribute to the wiki in line with the established processes and conventions. Need help? Ask an administrator! Disrupting the wiki with “edit warring” over differing opinions of a topic with another user or group of users is not productive.
    3. Do not engage in excessive self-promotion: The wiki is a collaborative community resource for the topic at hand. It is NOT a free place to advertise your related website, YouTube channel, blog, social media account, etc. Have a question about whether your link would be welcome? Ask an administrator!
    4. Do not harass other users: If somebody asks you to stop posting certain content on their wall, respect their wishes. It is their wall.
    5. Do follow community guidelines for formatting: When a community has established formatting, it’s important to adhere to that, especially when spoiler content is involved.

    Style Guide/Best Practices for Articles

    • Use "the Apprentice"/"the Apprentice's" instead of "you"/"your" or "player"/"player's" when referring to the player/reader and their character. Sentences can also be written in passive voice in order to avoid saying "you" (the part of this sentence outside the parentheses is an example of passive voice).
    • Except where in-game dialogue specifies a gender for a given character, gender-neutral pronouns ("they"/"their"/"them", not "he"/"his"/"him" or "she"/"hers"/"her") should be used, particularly for the Apprentice, Kazumi, and Pallas, all of whom the development team at Prideful Sloth were careful not to gender.
    • Lists should be in alphabetical order, except when there is an obvious reason to order them another way, such as the lists of Districts and Vaults which are listed in the order in which they can be unlocked.
    • Check other articles for whether a game term ought to be capitalized (though in some cases this is not yet consistent across articles — asking other editors for consensus is a good idea). As a rule of thumb, if there is an article about a term, e.g. "Point of Interest", then it should be capitalized (but not the short prepositions such as "of"). "The Withering" is always styled with a capital T even in the middle of a sentence, but otherwise use the format "the Uppercase" or "the lowercase" consistently.
    • Check other articles for the preferred terms for game objects and concepts, and try to use those even when they are not necessarily the obvious term. For example, the smashing Tool used by the Apprentice is not a hammer, but a Mallet, and the plants which are intermediate in size between Flowers and Trees are not bushes, but Shrubs.
    • Use "As of [date]" or "As of version x.x.0" in place of "Currently" and "At this time" when referring to the current state of the game's development. An exact day is not necessary; month and year are sufficient. The name of a named update, such as January 2022's Care and Prosperity, can also be used.
    • Commonwealth English conventions, and the Oxford comma, are preferred but not required (e.g. colour, centre, and familiarise). However, an exception to this is Customization, because it is spelled with a Z in in-game menus.
    • Present tense is the default tense when writing articles.
    • When adding screenshots/images from the game:
      • Use Photo Mode to avoid including the user interface (UI) and the player character except where relevant or unavoidable (the Bumbershoot does not show up in Photo Mode, for example, and the UI can't be documented without screenshots showing its elements).
      • Use the time-of-day slider in Photo Mode to improve visibility when needed.
      • Avoid unrelated content in the image that may be a spoiler (e.g. outcomes of world events or NPC storylines).
      • If documenting puzzles, please include their unsolved state.
    • Intralinks (links to other articles in the same wiki) are encouraged, but should be used wisely!
      • Only the first time a word/concept shows up needs to be linked, except on long pages the reader is likely to arrive at via a Title#Subheading link; avoid turning every instance of the word Everkin into a link to the Everkin page.
      • If you can't find a matching article for a concept/character you think is important, feel free to turn it into a redlink (empty article stub), but please ask around to workshop a proposed name (and make sure there isn't an official name already).
    • When in doubt, ask your fellow editors!

    Litany of Unofficial Words

Since launch, enterprising members of the community have uncovered names for creatures and items in-game by examining game files and collecting one-off comments from developers that may reflect internal or placeholder names from earlier development.

To avoid confusion regarding current state of the game/canon, the following terms should be avoided in articles except when explicitly commenting on the existence of unofficial names:

    • Dragonfleindeer (referring to the Apprentice's mount, Kazumi)
    • Mothy (also referring to Kazumi)
    • Grub (referring to withered insects)
